Hello Wikiwood Friends!
It has been a long time, but I would say the timing could not be better. This is the time of year when a lot of us begin to reflect on our year, family, and perhaps a few goals for the following year. We also hear a lot about being grateful! Shouldn’t we be grateful all year round and not just during Thanksgiving Day? I certainly hope so, and I am doing my best to incorporate it into my family’s life every day. It’s not always an easy task! Trust ME!
Our family has had quite a challenging year. We’ve had and continue to have quite our share of health problems, injuries, employment issues, financial issues and just a bit more. I can probably write a long list about the challenges we have had this year, but isn’t that just life sometimes? Life is full of ups and downs, hi’s and lo’s. Hopefully the UPS and HI’s are wonderful enough to make the lows take a side seat and not center stage. It is also a reminder to cherish those around us.
BUT, I can also decide to make a list of ALL of the things that I am grateful for. How’s that for a choice? I thank God daily for everything that I have. Thankfully, it is a much longer list. I am thank ful for my son, my husband, my family, my job, having a roof over my head and food in my belly. This list can also go on and on. For that, I am extremely grateful.
Last year I found this exercise that I also shared on our Wikiwood Naturals facebook page about being grateful, writing it down and then sharing your list with others. Can you believe that it has taken me a whole year to finally throw a jar together so that we can do this? Geesh! Well, unfortunately, I believe it! As much as I practice being grateful, I am very good at the practice of procrastination! I have perfected this and I’m not necessarily proud about it. Right on our console, as you enter our house:
So here’s our GRATITUDE JAR:
My plan is to write down 1-3 things that I am grateful for everyday and then open it up in January of 2016. Hopefully I will find some takers at home. My family usually thinks I harass them with all of my kooky ideas. I will share more about my other kooky ideas at a later date. Otherwise, maybe it will be full of my own list beginning on Thanksgiving Day eve through December 31st, New Year’s Eve. Maybe you can try it with your family. If you do, I would love for you to share your experience.
Studies are showing how being grateful is linked to happiness. Isn’t this a pretty simple thing to do if it can bring more happiness into our lives? Here’s a link for a few studies that I found interesting: http://happierhuman.com/the-science-of-gratitude Will it increase our happiness at home? I don't know, but I'm hoping it's a big YES! Please also wish me luck as we, Mr. & Mrs. B jump into this world of blogging.
