Ingredients in our Shea Butter: Just Unrefined Shea Butter & Organic Coconut Oil
Taking care of your Shea Butter:  Our focus has been to keep our Shea Butter in its most natural state.  For this reason, please be cautious because it will melt in hot temperatures. Do not leave it in your car. It’s like butter. If you forget and it melts, you can refrigerate it and it will return to a solid state within a few hours.

Why do we LOVE Shea?

Unrefined Shea Butter comes straight from nature.  Given its high content of anti-inflammatory and healing components, Shea butter is the perfect moisturizer and it helps in the healing of a variety of skin ailments and problems such as: eczema, psoriasis, rashes, hives, insect bites, poisonous plants, contact dermatitis, skin cracks, and minor cuts and burns.   

Because unrefined Shea butter is extracted traditionally or cold pressed, the color may vary between beige to medium yellow.  It contains large amounts of non-saponifiable fats. As a matter of fact, shea butter contains 7 to 12 percent of these moisturizing fats, while avocado oil only has 2 to 6 percent non-saponifiable fats. In addition, unrefined shea butter contains vitamins A, E and F, which help maintain the skin and keep it clear. Vitamin F also, found in unrefined Shea butter protects the skin from the elements. Unrefined shea butter also contains cinnamic acid, a natural sunscreen.  

Store unrefined shea butter in a cool dry place. Heat will cause the shea butter to melt. Unrefined shea butter does not spoil. Its healing properties are very powerful within the first year and a half. After that, it is still usable but not as beneficial. There is no need to store it in a freezer or refrigerator. Treat it like you treat your moisturizers and lotions. 
 Why Coconut Oil?

Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care. Coconut oil also helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.

Can I be allergic to shea butter?

Individuals with both a Type B latex allergy and a nut allergy can react negatively to shea butter. That is because shea butter is a vegetable fat that is directly extracted from a nut that befalls the Karite (shea) Nut tree. In addition, Shea butter contains natural latex and although it is not exactly the same as the sap-like latex extract from the Rubber Tree (Hevea brasiliensis), it is very similar in chemical composition.

Here’s my personal experience: I am allergic to walnuts and cashews but have not had an allergic reaction to this Shea Butter.  It has done wonders for my skin!  My son is allergic to almonds and has not had an allergic reaction either.  He uses Shea as a lip moisturizer. He puts it on at night when his lips are feeling chapped and in the morning they aren't chapped anymore.  Just like anything you apply on your skin, my recommendation is to try a little and see how it works for you.
